Family Mediation usually centers on mediating divorce cases. If there are children, the intent will be to concentrate on visitation and custody. With these mediations, the main focus is "What is in the best interest of the Child." This will be what the Judge looks at in the final analysis. If a couple is ready to do so, they can come to the mediation without an attorney and we can together 1) work out the necessary mutually agreed-upon mediation agreement and 2) work on the Divorce Decree* that they will need to take to the Courts for final approval. This process makes it financially beneficial for the couple and empowers them since they will be making the decisions themselves.
Please note that attorneys are always welcome and many times are very necessary in divorce mediations.
HOW I CAN HELP
If you are seeking a divorce, I can arrange a Mediation, a "safe meeting," with you and your spouse. If there are children, the subjects to be discussed would be to determine visitation and custody. Also I will provide you with a Division of Property List since we are a Community Property State where all needs to be divided equally. You may come with or without your attorney(s).
Elderly Parents This is becoming a more prevalent subject to be discussed. Should this be an issue, I would arrange for the adult children, and any other person(s) involved to meet in a safe setting. They would have the opportunity to discuss conflicted matters, i.e. housing, finances, and emotional related issues. They could determine their mutual goals and determine resolutions.
My Family Mediation practice is not limited to these subjects. Feel free to contact me about any issues that may be causing conflict within your family.
